Art at Westgate

At Westgate Primary School, we intend to develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding within Art. It is our intent for all children to have the knowledge and confidence to experiment and express themselves using a wide range of mediums. Throughout the Art Curriculum, children will be exposed to a wide range of different artist and techniques from other cultures and time periods which will deepen the children’s understanding and appreciation of the history of art.

We intend to engage, inspire and challenge pupils to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. We encourage children to develop a growth mindset by continuously reflecting and looking for ways to improve their artwork and understanding that the mastery of art and design techniques requires determination and resilience. We are committed to provide children with a safe space where they are able to produce and display creative artwork and respect and value the feedback of their peers.
